White folks who think Lupita shouldn’t win, believe so because they think Black people can inherently play a slave, they believe we are inherently inferior. In their minds being a slave isn’t a stretch, because how hard is it to portray yourself.
I’m sorry, but there are few who believe that black people are less than whites and therefore can easily play a slave. Both Jennifer and Lupita played roles not familiar to them, and both we’re very very good. What we shouldn’t say is that Lupita deserves it because the role emotionally broke her and cut deep, nor Jennifer deserves it because she was playing someone completely opposite if herself. 12 years a slave was a wonderful film, but it’s slave plot line does not give it anymore rights over other films for the fact that it portrays a dark time in American history. So please, stop pulling the race card and understand that these awards don’t mean shit and they are specifically made to give film making something to strive for.
